Burleson County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a slate of grants, contracts and policy updates during its Oct. 15 regular meeting in Caldwell.
The court adopted the September 2024 minutes, accepted a $300 donation for the Burleson County Health Resource Center and certified multiple grant awards, including a $22,941.48 Pretrial Mental Health Caseworker Grant (TX Governor’s Criminal Justice Division), $90,207.42 in ARPA LATCF funds, $195,790.83 in ARPA SLFRF funds, and a $238,760.28 County Transportation Infrastructure Fund award. Commissioners approved additional grant certifications listed in the consent agenda.
Commissioners ratified acceptance of a Homeland Security grant for the sheriff’s communications update totaling $47,333.75 and a separate Office of the Governor grant to enhance elections security totaling $193,621.60. The court also accepted a $5,935.12 SAVNS (Statewide Automated Victim Notification Service) grant and renewed a contract with Appriss Insights, LLC for SAVNS services through Aug. 31, 2025 at the same amount.
The court approved a Special Road Use Indemnity Agreement and Permit #2024-01-003 for Wildfire Energy Operating LLC relating to CL Anderson A 1H and B 1H operations on County Road 173, and separately approved a temporary right-of-way for a 12-inch temporary water line on County Roads 204, 206 and 284 for the same company.
Commissioners approved a resolution to apply for the FY2025 Texas Indigent Defense Commission’s Formula Grant Program and moved forward with a series of land-use items, including a subdivision exception for the Alton E. Ofczarzak Estate (County Road 162) and approval of the Bee Haven Farms subdivision plat (County Road 315).
Policy actions included unanimous approval of an HIV/AIDS policy and a Law Enforcement Mental Health Policy. The court also ratified payout of FY2024 compensatory time for employees in several departments and approved payment of county bills before adjourning.

Why it matters
The grants and contract renewals put federal and state funds to use for public safety, transportation and victim notification services, while the road-use and right-of-way approvals allow energy-related activity that may affect county roads.
