Burleson County commissioners ratify grants, approve pay schedule and impose burn ban in unanimous vote

The Burleson County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on Sept. 23, 2024, to ratify several grant awards and adopt routine administrative measures, including approval of the 2025 pay schedule and holiday calendar and adoption of a county burn ban.

The court ratified grant award #4987601 from the Office of the Governor’s Public Safety Office — a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Justice and Training Program prosecution grant — totaling $10,579.15, with no local match required. The court also ratified two awards under the Texas Comptroller’s FY2025 Rural Law Enforcement Salary Assistance Program (SB‑22): $350,000 for the Sheriff’s Office (award #IA‑0000000789) and $175,000 for the County Attorney’s Office (award #IA‑0000000804). Commissioners Robert “Bobby” Urbanosky and Vincent Svec moved and seconded the sheriff’s award ratification; Commissioner Dwayne Faust and Commissioner Vincent Svec moved and seconded the county attorney award ratification. Both motions passed by unanimous voice vote.

Other business included acceptance of a small donation (a $30 gift to the Burleson Health Resource Center), approval of the treasurer’s monthly reports and the 3rd quarter FY2024 investment report, and approval of bids for road materials, asphalt, culverts, fuel, oil and hauling. The court approved issuance of Requests for Proposals for solid waste disposal services at county citizen collection stations and extended a contract with Swico Auctions. A Mass Gathering Permit was approved for the "Live at the Station" event; a proposed water line and road bore for Milano Water Corp. were also approved.

The court took procedural actions on plats and subdivision exceptions: postponing action on the Bee Haven Farms Subdivision plat application and postponing the Alton E. Ofczarzak Estate subdivision exception while approving a subdivision exception for Woodland Trail TX. The court also approved a continuation certificate for bond renewal for Austin Elmore, Deputy Constable, Precinct 2, and adopted 2024 amendments to the Burleson County Engineering Guidelines.

All recorded motions on the agenda were made, seconded and approved by unanimous vote of the five-member court. The meeting concluded after the court authorized payment of bills and adjourned.

Next steps: items postponed (including the Bee Haven Farms plat application and the Alton E. Ofczarzak Estate subdivision exception) remain on the court’s docket for future action; the SB‑22 awards and other grants were ratified and will be processed per county procedures.
