Burleson County’s Commissioners Court on Nov. 12 approved a wide-ranging consent agenda that included multiple FY2024 budget amendments, acceptance of four law-enforcement grants and several administrative actions, the court’s minutes show.
The court unanimously accepted a $351,956.01 Rural Law Enforcement Salary Assistance award for the sheriff’s office, $18,657.89 for constables, $36,554.90 for the prosecutor’s office and $62,847.97 for a Victims Assistance Coordinator grant from the Texas Office of the Governor; the court also accepted a $1,500 Brazos Valley Community Clean-Up Challenge award. The consent agenda motion to adopt the November 2024 minutes and the listed budget amendments was made by Commissioner Dwayne Faust and seconded by Commissioner Vincent Svec; the minutes record that all members voted aye.
Chief William “Bill” Rios reported that the county jail held 56 people — 47 male and 9 female — and listed vacancies in the sheriff’s department, including one dispatch position, two patrol positions, one school resource officer, one jailer and one part-time jail nurse. The grants accepted by the court were listed in the consent items and will flow to the general fund per the auditor’s certification.
The court also approved administrative and infrastructure items: a memorandum of understanding with the Greater Brazos Partnership; approval of the Kachina Vista Subdivision; a request by Entergy to bore County Road 300; a 60-month copier contract for the Extension Office with Ubeo Business Services at $260 per month with no increase; permission to dump fill dirt on Leslie Schoppe’s land on County Road 402; and paving of Hull Street by Road & Bridge Pct. 2 for the City of Snook. Several motions identified movers and seconders in the minutes; each action passed with unanimous votes recorded as “All voted Aye. None voted No.”
The court authorized the County Auditor to perform audits required under Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 59 for the offices of the county attorney and the sheriff, and postponed action on awarding one or more contracts for solid-waste disposal service under REP Contract #2024-10-01. The court also authorized notification to the U.S. Department of Transportation to include Burleson County in the next road consideration for RAISE grant funding.
Election-related business included approval of a random drawing for partial manual counts for a local candidate for Constable Pct. 4 and for several precincts and scheduling the canvass. County Judge Keith Schroeder reported October collections of $10,211 for county misdemeanor court and $11,696 for district felony court; the auditor reported completion of an indigent defense audit totaling $291,479.
The meeting ended after the court approved payment of bills and adjourned; the minutes show signatures and attestation by Judge Keith Schroeder, the four commissioners and County Clerk Anna L. Schielack.
Next procedural steps recorded in the minutes include scheduling the canvass for the partial manual count and the county’s follow-up on grant and audit administration; no further deadlines or contested outcomes are listed in the minutes.
