Charles Mix County approves Minnehaha juvenile detention contract, sets per‑day rates

The Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners on March 14 approved a contract to place juveniles at the Minnehaha County Juvenile Detention Center at a rate of $458.48 per day and at Lutheran Social Services placements at $289.20 per day. Vice Chairman Colin Soukup moved the approval and Commissioner Nick Stotz seconded; "all in favor, motion carried."

The vote followed a presentation of routine business earlier in the session; no public opposition or alternative placement proposals were recorded in the minutes. The contract language and the per‑day rates were presented as the motion on the floor and accepted without amendment.

County officials did not identify an estimated annual fiscal impact during the meeting. The contract approval authorizes county staff to proceed with placements under the stated daily rates and with Minnehaha County as the service provider. The board meets next on March 28 at 10 a.m. at the courthouse.
