Charles Mix County commissioners on March 14 approved several highway contracts and grant agreements proposed by county highway staff. The board approved a 2024 striping contract with DTS for $25,929.61 and accepted a 2024 striping grant from the South Dakota Department of Transportation for $9,833.18 based on 149.660 miles. Commissioner Nick Stotz moved the approvals and Vice Chairman Colin Soukup seconded; minutes record "All in favor, motion carried."
The board also selected Brosz Engineering for the county's 2024 Bridge Inspection Program and agreed to pay 20% of inspection costs, and it approved three SD DOT bridge improvement grant contracts (numbers 12-520-282; 12-490-231; 12-506-210). Highway Foremen Jerry Horst and Mike Fuches reviewed current highway activities and staffing before the votes.
In addition to contract approvals, the board approved the 2024 Highway Safety Benefits Handbook and accepted a Beadle County bid proposal from True North Steel. At the meeting the council/bills packet showed County Road & Bridge charges totaling $354,656.11 as part of the bills approved for March 14; large line items in the bill list include a $49,000 gravel purchase from Hosek Enterprise and a $238,950.00 invoice to Wagner Building Supply, as recorded in the meeting packet. The board set no further conditions in the minutes; implementation and invoicing will proceed through county highway administration.
