Grant County Planning & Zoning convened a public hearing March 20, 2024, to gather comment on an updated Floodplain Ordinance and revised definitions that would replace the county’s current zoning provisions if approved by the Grant County Commissioners.
Robert Ternes, chairman of the Planning & Zoning board, called the hearing to order at 11:00 a.m. MT and opened the floor for discussion. Tax Equalization Director Jackie Steinmetz and several county commissioners and staff were noted as present.
Pat Diehl, the county’s Floodplain Administrator, responded to questions from the board and explained the FEMA flood maps used as part of the proposed ordinance update. Diehl provided the mapping context and technical information intended to guide how floodplain areas are defined and regulated under the revised language.
Grant Walker, Grant County states attorney, told the board he had reviewed the updated Floodplain Ordinance and Definitions and approved them for presentation to the commissioners. The minutes do not record a Planning & Zoning vote on the ordinance; the revised provisions were described as replacing existing ordinances once the Grant County Commissioners give final approval.
The Planning & Zoning hearing was adjourned at 11:17 a.m. MT. The chairs were then vacated so the Grant County Commissioners could hold their own public hearing on the same updated floodplain ordinance and definitions beginning at 11:36 a.m. MT, according to the minutes.
No public comments or motions recorded in the Planning & Zoning minutes are shown in the transcript; the minutes contain signatures for Robert Ternes, chairman, and Jackie Steinmetz, tax equalization director, certifying the record.
