Committee corrects code citation, passes House Bill 1202

The Senate Public Safety Committee unanimously approved House Bill 1202 on a voice vote after the bill's sponsor described it as a clerical correction to state code.

Representative Corbett told the committee the bill "is just that simple bill, a Scribner's error" and that it strikes "356815 and insert[s] 35-68-16," correcting the statute reference without changing the statute's substance.

A staff member summarized the practical difference, saying the two citations concern different grant-authorizing provisions: one allows the Judicial Coordinating Council to administer grants to counties and cities; the other authorizes grants to the Georgia Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Advisory Board. Committee members asked for a brief clarification of the change and, with no further discussion, Senator Goodman moved to pass the bill; Senator Payne seconded. The chair called the voice vote and the motion passed unanimously.

The committee recorded the clerical correction and will forward the bill for further consideration in the Senate rules process.
