The Dubois County Board of Commissioners on April 15 accepted the Highway Department’s 2023 annual report, approved hiring a District #2 truck driver and took several project-related actions including a transfer of funds and a materials purchase for a bridge replacement.
Highway Superintendent Steve Berg presented the annual report, which the board approved as submitted. Berg recommended hiring Dakota Hackman, who holds a Class A commercial driver’s license, to fill a District #2 truck-driver vacancy; the board approved the hire pending administrative processing with a start date of April 29, 2024.
Berg also requested a $2,000 transfer of appropriation within the Highway Restricted fund, moving funds from Geotextile to Paint to pay for railroad-crossing signage to be installed after summer paving; the board approved the transfer. For Bridge #254 replacement materials, the board reviewed quotes and approved a low bid from Sugar Steel for $63,956.18 over a higher Modern Welding quote of $81,060.00.
Berg noted the Freeze Thaw Ordinance 2023-19 took effect Jan. 15, 2024 and expires April 15, 2024. A complaint regarding road and ditch conditions on W 500 N in Boone Township was discussed with no recorded formal action beyond staff follow-up.
