The Dubois County Council on May 13 approved multiple additional appropriations to support the Huntingburg Public Library construction project and appointed two new library trustees.
Donna Neuman and Lisa McWilliams, representing the Huntingburg Public Library, updated the council on the construction work and requested additional appropriations from several county funds to cover project costs. The funds and amounts presented were: General Fund $705,000; LIRF $560,000; Rainy Day LIRF $350,000; General Fund–Trust Indiana $415,000; GIFT Fund $235,000; Rainy Day Operating Fund $530,000; LIRF–Trust Indiana $205,000. Alex P. Hohl moved to approve the appropriations, Doug Uebelhor seconded, and the motion carried 6‑0.
In the same agenda item the council approved two library board appointments. On a motion by Daryl Schmitt, seconded by Sonya Haas, the council appointed Melissa Boeglin and Mary Jeanne Schumaker to terms running July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2028.
The approvals authorize the library to proceed with the next phase of construction financing; the minutes do not specify a schedule for disbursement or the final project budget beyond the appropriations listed. Council actions on funding were recorded as votes or carried motions as noted above. The council did not condition the appropriations on additional actions in the minutes.
Next steps noted in the meeting record: project-specific bidding and contract steps would proceed through the usual procurement processes and any required approvals from the Board of Commissioners or state grant administrators would be sought as needed.
