The Dubois County Commissioners approved multiple administrative items at their May 6 meeting, including contracts, surplus disposal and personnel‑policy changes.
Jenny Matheis of the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission presented and the board approved a contract with Eric Curtis to provide technical assistance and inspections for the Owner‑Occupied Rehabilitation (OOR) program; Matheis reported 76 applications have been received but only 40 properties will be served after inspections. Custodian Scott Hopf and EMA Director Tammy Humbert requested removal of a tower on the Courthouse Annex; commissioners accepted a Harmonics Electronics quote of $4,250 to be paid from soft costs of the jail building project.
Health Administrator/Director Shawn Werner presented the Health Department’s 2023 annual report, received approval for an Eagle Scout project to build an activity center in the department waiting room, and obtained authorization to dispose of metal shelving declared surplus. EMS Coordinator Ryan Young asked for a $5,500 HVAC unit for the Dubois ambulance bay; commissioners expressed concern about installing equipment in a building not owned by the county and directed the County Attorney to draft a Memorandum of Understanding clarifying installation, payment and maintenance responsibilities, and recommended use of ARPA funds pending County Council approval.
Other routine items included approval of a supplemental easement from Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company (d/b/a CenterPoint Energy Indiana South) and the County Auditor’s submission of the Congressional School annual report.
