Sheriff reports 36 in jail; court hears plans to set up Crisis Intervention Team

Chief Garrett Durrenberger reported to the Commissioners Court on Feb. 13 that the Burleson County jail housed 36 inmates. He said the sheriff’s office is establishing a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) in coordination with Shawn Edwards to respond to behavioral-health-related incidents.

Durrenberger also reported staffing impacts: Sgt. Stohler is assigned to border-patrol duties and the patrol function is currently two staff short, with some duties coordinated with the Texas Department of Public Safety. The minutes record these operational details but do not specify timelines for filling vacancies or the CIT’s launch schedule.

Separately, Jessica Lucero reported that tax payments are caught up for the end of the year and that the Appraisal District expects software updates from its vendor on April 21; the minutes list these as informational items in the department reports section.
