During the Feb. 27, 2023 Burleson County Commissioners Court meeting in Caldwell, county staff gave routine updates on public safety, health services and revenues.
Chief Garrett Durrenberger delivered the Sheriff’s Report and said the county jail housed 40 people — 38 men and two women — and that four jailer positions were open. That staffing shortfall was recorded in the minutes but no action on hiring was recorded at the meeting.
Duane Strange of EMC reported the county is waiting for a decision from the State of Texas and FEMA regarding a winter-declaration request for public assistance. Albert Ramirez of the Burleson Health Resource Center summarized the center’s activities for 2022; the minutes refer readers to attachments for details.
County Judge Keith Schroeder reported that collections for January 2023 for the County Misdemeanor Court and District Court were postponed. The judge also said a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) violation at the old Cooks Point Store had been addressed following the opening of a new store.
The auditor reported sales tax receipts of $167,548, an increase of 15.5% compared with the prior reporting period; the auditor is not named in the minutes. Commissioner Vincent Svec reported that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is starting work on the bridge at Mallard and Sessums Street.
The court did not take any recorded action directly tied to the jail staffing report during the meeting. The minutes and attachments contain the full reporting details.
