The Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners approved two personnel hires and the Veterans Service Officer contract and received operational updates from county highway staff and a Bryan Township representative at its Dec. 29 meeting.
The board approved hiring Nichole Frank as a jailer at $22.68 per hour (effective Dec. 17, 2025) and Cindy Porter as a crewman at $22.02 per hour (effective Dec. 22, 2025). The hires were approved by motion of Vice Chairman Nick Stotz and seconded by Chairman Colin Soukup; minutes record the votes as unanimous.
The commission also approved the county's Veterans Service Officer contract with the State for 2026 on a motion by Stotz and second by Soukup.
Highway Superintendent Doug Cimpl provided a snow-pushing update, indicated a resolution will be needed to permit boring under a county road and raised the county-vehicle question for possible snow days; the board took no action during the meeting. Neil Von Eschen, representing Bryan Township, described the township’s interest in renting storage space for its road grader; the board asked staff to gather additional options.
An executive session to discuss personnel was held under SDCL 1-25-2; it began at 11:04 a.m. and ended at 11:16 a.m. with no action taken.
The meeting adjourned at 11:17 a.m., and the board scheduled its next regular meetings for Jan. 5 and Jan. 22 at the courthouse.
