Chris Kingsbury and Greg O'Donnell of Atlas Technical Consulting presented an update to the Ware County Board of Commissioners on the county’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan during the Nov. 11 meeting in Waycross.
Atlas described the plan as a multi-step effort: compiling a data inventory, soliciting public feedback (including a public-priority voting exercise to produce a needs assessment), assessing existing and future conditions, and producing recommendations and physically achievable projects — such as potential bypasses — that emphasize multimodal connectivity, mobility and safety while considering social, economic and environmental effects.
Atlas representatives said this is Ware County’s first comprehensive transportation plan in more than two decades and that the CTP will align with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ countywide joint city–county planning effort. Atlas said the draft materials and public-input mechanisms will be made available on the county website and that the next Atlas presentation to the board is expected in February or March 2025.
The update focused on collecting public priorities to shape a needs assessment and on producing recommendations that the county can implement in phases. No formal actions or votes accompanied the presentation.
