Steuben County Council approves $75,000 for airport fuel stock and equipment

Randy Strebig, representing the Steuben County Board of Aviation, asked the Council for two additional appropriations to support airport operations and equipment purchases. Strebig said $40,000 from the Rainy Day Fund is needed to purchase airport fuel stock so the airport can sell fuel, which the Board hopes will make the airport a refueling destination rather than a fly-over. Strebig also requested $35,000 from the Airport Grant Clearing Fund to buy equipment, specifically citing an Air Tug for about $14,000 and approximately $5,200 for used equipment from John Kline.

Council members commented favorably on increased aviation engagement: Jim Getz noted higher attendance at Aviation Board meetings and a recent volunteer-led hangar clean-up, and Strebig said the Board hopes cleaner facilities will attract rental businesses. Linda Hansen moved to approve both additional appropriation requests; Ruth Beer seconded and the motion carried with seven ayes.

The appropriations listed in the meeting record are: an additional $40,000 to account 1186-000-3000.01 (Misc. Disbursement Airport Fuel) from the Rainy Day Fund, and an additional $35,000 to account 4904-000-4000.15 (Mach/Equip/Repair/Remodel) in the Airport Clearing Grant Fund.
