Dubois County Council members on Dec. 30 voted 6-0 to adopt amendments to the 2025 Salary Ordinance that raise pay for two recently hired Sheriff/Jail security officers to $1,929.86 bi-weekly and set the Community Corrections Maintenance position at a $23.00-per-hour maximum.
Auditor Sandra L. Morton presented both amendments. The wage increase for the two security officers was described as intended to match the wage of an existing third security officer; the minutes state the increase will be effective on the Jan. 3, 2025 pay date and that an additional appropriation will be advertised and presented at the Jan. 21, 2025 meeting. The Community Corrections Maintenance position is scheduled to begin on Jan. 6, 2025.
Ryan Craig moved to approve the Sheriff/Jail salary amendments and Meredith I. Voegerl seconded; the motion carried 6-0. Craig also moved the Community Corrections wage amendment, Voegerl seconded, and the council approved it by the same margin.
Separately, Auditor Morton asked the council to authorize President Michael W. Kluesner to approve any necessary budgetary transfers remaining before the end of the year; the council provided consensus that President Kluesner may approve such transfers after notification to the entire council. Auditor Morton also informed members that the Department of Local Government Finance had issued the 2025 Budget Order; that item was informational and required no action.
The council adjourned at 9:40 a.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2025.
