Franklin County Fiscal Court awards fire equipment contract, authorizes fuel-tank bids and confirms personnel appointments

Franklin County Fiscal Court on Dec. 11, 2024 voted unanimously to award the Fire Department’s SCBA equipment contract to 911 Fleet & Fire Equipment as the lowest bidder for up to $184,400. The court also authorized advertising for sealed bids for horizontal thermally insulated above-ground fuel storage tanks after a successful motion to advertise.

During the meeting the court received a first reading of an ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 11-2022 and establishing updated procedures for collection, disbursement and enforcement of the Transient Room Tax, and heard a first reading of an ordinance to withdraw Franklin County from the Frankfort–Franklin County Tourist and Convention Commission and to create a separate Franklin County Sports Tourism Commission. Both items were first readings only; no adoption vote was taken.

Financial housekeeping motions to receive the Treasurer’s Report and to pay the bills were approved. The court moved into a closed session under KRS 61.810(1)(f) for discussions that might lead to appointment, discipline or dismissal of an individual employee and later returned to open session; both motions passed unanimously.

Following the closed session the court approved multiple personnel actions: appointments of Gregg Wells and Robert Conaway as Light Equipment Operator/Driver positions and board appointments of Kazi Javed (term through Dec. 31, 2027) and Elizabeth Kennedy (term through Dec. 31, 2028) to the Franklin County Extension District Board. Squire Mike Harrod moved the appointment motions that were adopted by the full court. The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
