Ottawa County commissioners approve December claims, payroll, new bank signers and remove closed road near Afton

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Dec. 22 to approve meeting minutes, payroll and a set of claims for fiscal year 2025–2026, and to authorize several administrative and highway actions.

Motioned by Commissioner Robert Clark and seconded by Commissioner Scott Hilton, the board approved the minutes from the Dec. 15 meeting and accepted the payroll presented for payment. The board also approved payment of a detailed claims list that included a $10,666.66 contract listed as OSUCOOP EXT SERVICE, multiple recurring inmate-nutrition and inmate-phone charges to vendors listed as PRODIGY, and a $11,212.12 equipment charge for WYANDOTTE FIRE DEPARTMENT; the motion passed with Commissioners Hilton, Clark and Chairman Mike Furnas recorded as voting aye.

Under separate action, the board approved a State of Oklahoma Department of Transportation County Action Report submitted by District No. 3 to remove County Road CR E-0210 (DOT No. 667436Y) near Afton. The report states the railroad crossing that provided access has been closed and access to the road and any household or public road is no longer available; Commissioner Clark moved the approval and Commissioner Hilton seconded it. The board recorded a unanimous vote in favor.

The board adopted Resolution 2025.52 at the treasurer’s request to add Tabitha Reeves, Sarah Saenz, Courtney Davis, Lynda Simpson, Robyn Mitchell and Natasha Freeman as authorized signers on Ottawa County general bank accounts at Welch State Bank, and to remove Kathy Bowling and Verna Ferris as signers. The board also approved requisitioning and receiving officer designations for the Sheriff’s Department and related funds for fiscal year 2025–2026, naming Rocky Ferdig, Tamara Patterson and Bridget Kirby as requisitioning officers and Holli McDaniel and Cheryl Tallman as receiving officers.

Clerk records show the board accepted several checks for deposit, including two checks from Steel City Metals ($576.00 and $1,116.80) and a $5,100.00 check (Check #119882). The board approved blanket purchase orders #2407 through #2442 before adjourning. Commissioners reported routine maintenance in Districts 2 and 3; District 1 noted line-of-site work and attendance at workforce and BIA meetings during the prior week.
