Burleson County adopts FY2024 budget and sets property tax rate at $0.4800, a 12.51% increase

Burleson County Commissioners Court adopted the county’s FY2024 budget and set the 2023 county property tax rate at $0.4800 during its Sept. 11 meeting in Caldwell.

The action followed public hearings on elected officers’ compensation and the proposed budget. After debate and the hearings, the court approved elected county and precinct officers’ compensation and allowances for FY2024 and then adopted the FY2024 budget by recorded vote. Commissioners Dwayne Faust, Vincent Svec, David Hildebrand, Robert (Bobby) Urbanosky and County Judge Keith Schroeder voted aye; none voted no.

The court also ratified a property tax increase embedded in the FY2024 budget and adopted the specific 2023 county property tax rates. The overall rate was set at $0.4800 per $100 valuation, representing a 12.51 percent increase from the prior rate. The adopted components listed on the record were maintenance and operations (M&O) $0.39488, interest and sinking (I&S) $0.01012, and farm-to-market road (FM Road) $0.07500.

The adoption completed the procedural steps required under state budget and tax notice rules; attachments referenced in the record provide supporting budget documents and the record vote. The court concluded the item and proceeded with other agenda business.

The court adjourned after approving other routine items later in the meeting.
