Durham staff present FY25 transit work program and GoDurham/GoTriangle reports; $30M facility and $850K gap cited

The Durham County Board on April 1 reviewed the recommended FY25 Durham Transit Work Program and received annual and agency updates from GoDurham and GoTriangle.

Ellen Beckmann, Durham Transportation Director, outlined the Work Program and said staff and the board must approve the program under terms of the Transit Governance Interlocal Agreement; she said staff had identified a $30 million estimate for a transit facility and were still evaluating how to cover an $850,000 funding gap.

Sean Egan, City of Durham Transportation Director, presented highlights and key metrics from the FY23 GoDurham Annual Report and answered questions about infrastructure improvements and sidewalk projects in Southern Durham. Egan said the City proposed a 3.75-cent property tax measure to secure local funding, estimating about $15 million in local revenue.

Chuck Lattuca, GoTriangle president and CEO, briefed the board on the agency’s services and capital work, including discussions with RDU Airport about employee transport options and pursuing federal grant opportunities for related infrastructure and housing efforts. The board asked GoTriangle to return with a more detailed financial overview at a future meeting.

Beckmann said funding decisions will move through a staff working group and then back to the board for formal approval.
