Thomasville mayor reports progress on potential hospital sale; Zaxby's opening and industrial-site interest follow

The presiding officer told the council "there's a signed contract" and ongoing due diligence involving multiple parties regarding the closed hospital property; he said the city has a letter of intent on a project looking at the old hospital site and expects to announce developments once the industrial board and other stakeholders finalize the letter.

He said several other prospects are in early discussions, including interest in the old Energex site on Joe Davis, and noted a Zaxby's restaurant is expected to open "definitely before the end of the month," for which the city plans to implement temporary traffic controls around US 43 during opening days. "We're making preparations now on how we're gonna do traffic control," he said, and added that Chief Stuckey and the street superintendent are coordinating a plan.

Officials also reported that the South Industrial Park road-extension project had curb and gutter and base work complete and that paving could start within two weeks depending on weather. The presiding officer said Regional Planning Organization work is about to start on a US 43 project and that multiple developers are beginning to look at properties north of town, tying infrastructure projects to private development interest.

No formal approvals tied directly to the hospital were announced; council members were updated on ongoing negotiations and local projects.
