Council approves new finance/payroll software; presiding officer abstains due to family tie

Peyton, identified by the presiding officer as the staff member handling payroll and accounts, recommended a new software package after reviewing multiple vendors and compatibility issues across existing systems. Councilman Davis moved to approve the recommendation; Councilman Waite seconded the motion. During the voice vote the presiding officer said he would abstain "due to the fact that my son works for a software company that may be affiliated with some of this software." The presiding officer nevertheless directed that the record show the measure carried.
