A public hearing on May 14 drew a large turnout of residents opposed to a conditional‑use permit (CUP) for 110 Stagecoach St., an application connected to Commissioner Damon Hoyte, and many speakers urged the commission not to allow another manufactured home in the neighborhood.
Neighbors told the commission the parcel had been considered previously and that the subdivision—referred to by residents as The Farm, The Ranch and The Village—has largely stick‑built homes. "We do not understand why this is being brought up again," said resident Matt McAdams. Sheila Wilson, who said she has lived in the neighborhood for three decades, told commissioners she and neighbors had collected more than 40 signatures opposing the CUP and alleged earlier conduct related to a prior mobile‑home placement, including damage to county property and improperly posted hearing dates.
Commissioners closed the public hearing without approving the CUP that night. At a May 28 work session the commission voted to table the CUP until June 24 pending resolution of ongoing litigation linked to a related case; the motion passed unanimously. Chairman Charles Coffey and others noted Planning & Zoning had not issued a formal recommendation, and commissioners said they preferred to avoid deciding while litigation is active.
Commissioner Hoyte defended his application and said he had engaged an appraiser and believed a manufactured home would not harm property values; he added he was exercising his right to apply. No final land‑use decision was made while litigation remains pending and Planning & Zoning had not issued a written recommendation.
