The Butler County Board of Supervisors on May 7 appointed Mackenzie Gillen as a Medical Examiner Investigator and approved a related training grant application intended to cover most of the costs.
Jennifer Becker, Butler County Public Health Director, told the board that current Medical Examiner Investigator Tammy Fleshner plans to retire in January and that Mackenzie Gillen has expressed interest in taking over coverage. Becker said a grant was available to cover most of the costs of the required training.
Supervisor Greg Barnett moved to appoint Gillen, and Chairman Wayne Dralle seconded; the motion carried with all ayes from the three supervisors present: Dralle, Rusty Eddy and Barnett. The board then approved a separate motion to authorize submission of the MEI training grant application (motion by Barnett, second by Eddy), which also passed unanimously.
Becker framed the appointment and grant as a continuity measure to ensure the county maintains Medical Examiner Investigator coverage when Fleshner retires. The board took no additional personnel actions during the meeting.
The board scheduled routine follow-up and moves to implement the appointment and the training process; no dates for training completion were specified at the meeting.
