Glenn Fisher, director of Edmond Electric, updated council on the Smart Choice advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) implementation, describing the migration from manual meter readings to a 900 MHz radio-AMIsystem that communicates meter data to a head-end and then to billing and other operational systems.
Fisher said delivery and installation delays have left about 4,000 water registers and 1,800 electric meters to be installed; supply-chain constraints and delays for some commercial meters are the primary reasons. "Currently, out of 44,000 accounts, we have 39,000 of those accounts using the AMI system for billing," he said, adding that staff are completing data validation and moving books into the CIS billing system.
The city is preparing to launch a new customer portal; Fisher said the portal is in final acceptance testing and that customers will need to re-register. He described user features including daily and hourly consumption charts for both water and electric, and the ability to drill into individual billing-cycle events to identify unusual high-usage days. Staff said they will continue outreach via social media, videos, and digital banners as the portal goes live.
