The Wimberley Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted on March 11 to recommend that city council approve a five-year title-sponsorship contract between the City of Wimberley and the nonprofit Friends of Wimberley Parks for the Concerts in the Park series.
Staff said the proposed contract would provide the city $4,000 annually in title-sponsorship funds; staff noted the typical title fee has been $5,000 but explained the $4,000 level covers band fees (about $4,000) and reflects Friends 27 longstanding partnership with parks. A staff member said the contract contains a rights-fee escalation provision capped at 10% per year.
Board members discussed the five-year term and the exclusivity that comes with a title sponsor. Several members expressed concern that naming an exclusive title sponsor for five years could limit future sponsorship opportunities but accepted staff 27s clarification that smaller sponsorship tiers remain available for other events and department programs. One member described Friends as an "active partner" and said that funds routed through Friends ultimately benefit the parks.
After discussion, the chair called for a motion recommending approval to council; the motion was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Staff noted that the city has already raised about $19,000 in sponsorships across park programs this year, including the Friends contribution, and that staff would ensure the contract language addresses fee escalation and the approval process for any additional sponsor requests.
