Committee hears amendment to expand diabetic supplies coverage, sponsor frames continuous monitoring as prevention

A sponsoring lawmaker told the committee that modern continuous glucose-monitoring technology can replace routine finger sticks. "Instead of finger sticks, you can do continuous monitoring," the lawmaker said, adding that keeping blood sugar within a target range can "avoid chronic permanent disability and disease such as blindness, kidney disease." The lawmaker described the coverage update as an investment that can prevent costly chronic disease and disability over time.

Staff said they were available to answer questions and no formal vote was recorded on the floor during the presentation; committee action to adopt the strike-everything amendment was noted in committee records. The committee advanced other consent items after the discussion.
