In the building and grounds segment, facilities staff provided an update on ongoing projects, focusing on parking at Greenville High School and the district’s approach to turf and field replacements.
Colonel Carlin said the district is in the design phase to add about 53 parking spaces at Greenville High School on the back bus loop and has received state approval for the design. He added that district staff are in discussions with a nearby property owner that could help the district reach a target closer to 100 spaces if acquired or otherwise secured.
On athletic field upgrades and turf prioritization, Carlin described three primary factors guiding sequencing: whether an existing field can accommodate both soccer and lacrosse, whether the field has a track (which affects scheduling and seasonality for installation), and prioritizing higher‑cost fields earlier to avoid escalation. "First of all, would the existing field accommodate lacrosse and soccer in its current state? ... The second one was, does the field have a track around it? ... And then finally, we attempted to push the more expensive fields sooner in the executions because the farther you get out, the more escalation you're paying," Carlin said.
Board members said the explanation helped when talking with constituents about why some projects are scheduled earlier than others. No formal vote was required on the update; the committee adjourned and proceeded to a scheduled workshop on the long‑range facilities plan.
