Lynchburg City Schools facilities staff told the Finance & Facilities committee that metal-detector screening is fully implemented at both E.C. Glass High School and Heritage High School and is now part of the morning routine.
"On average, all bus riders are through the process by 07:23 a.m. and all car riders by 07:28 a.m.," the presenter said, noting that late arrivals compress volume and lengthen lines. The presenter said students and staff have acclimated quickly and that security officers' early hands-on support helped staff take over operations within days.
Committee members asked whether nearby traffic patterns on Wards Ferry Road and Leesville Road contribute to delays; staff said they had not yet analyzed that intersection but have requested city assistance and issued family communications urging earlier arrival windows to smooth flow. The committee expressed appreciation for the reduced burden on school discipline resources and for improved throughput.
No formal policy vote was taken; staff said they will continue to refine arrival procedures and monitor whether additional traffic changes or signage are needed.
