A House panel approved a rules substitute for House Resolution 145, which urges vision and hearing screening for the youngest students in schools.
Chairman Irvin explained the measure to the panel, saying the resolution — which was recommitted — urges vision and hearing screening in schools for early-grade students and that language on line 19 had to be changed to replace wording for the House of Representatives/General Assembly. "It was recommitted. Yesterday, it's the urging resolution for vision and hearing screening in schools for our youngest students," Chairman Irvin said.
Following the explanation, the presiding chair asked for a motion to approve the rules substitute (listed in the meeting materials as LC 49 27 92 S). A member moved to approve the rule substitute and another seconded the motion. When the chair asked if there was any opposition, none was voiced and the chair said, "It's approved."
The panel also recognized visitors from the Medical College of Georgia, including guests from Northwest Georgia and the Rome area. Chairman Newton thanked those visitors for attending: "Thank you all for being here and watching us, do our best to, make Georgia a better place," he said.
At the close of the brief business, the presiding chair said the panel would not set a calendar that day, noted that the budget was on the table, and referenced a scheduling target for further action later in the week.
The rules substitute for HR 145 will proceed according to the panel's rules; no roll-call vote or numerical tally was recorded in the transcript, and no amendments were described during the discussion.
