The board received student presentations and recognitions at the opening of the March 9 meeting. A cadet unit from East Starwood Acres Elementary described the unit's focus on "pride, discipline, and leadership" and said it was the first elementary cadet unit in Dougherty County.
The meeting continued with student awards recognition facilitated by Lakisha Bridal Bruce, who named winners across elementary, middle and high school divisions: Robert A. Cross, Boardy Comprehensive, Westover, Mary Acres Middle School and others were cited for first-, second- and third-place finishes in regional and state social-studies and Black History competitions. The superintendent and board members congratulated the scholars and invited board members to take photos.
Board members and attendees repeatedly praised the students' behavior and achievements. No policy or budget action was associated with these recognitions; they were presented as ceremonial and celebratory items at the start of the meeting.
