Senate unanimously approves planning and zoning clarification bill after Fayette County concerns

The Kentucky Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 53 after the bill’s sponsor described changes meant to preserve local debate on planning and zoning matters.

A senator from Fayette, speaking as floor sponsor, said the measure was prompted by local concerns that a city attorney’s interpretation had curtailed debate in Fayette County. "This bill makes it less cumbersome to move matters through planning and zoning," the sponsor said while recounting local experience and testimony from the Fayette County Neighborhood Association and the county planning and zoning commission.

The sponsor said the amendment language clarifies that neither neighborhood voices nor the planning and zoning commission should be cut off from hearings on local issues.
