Bill would require fire-district board members to live in the districts they represent

Speaker Pro Tempore David Mead introduced House Bill 682 in its original form and said it "just says that if you were going to be on the board of a fire district... that you must live in that district." Mead told the committee his intent was simple: people who vote to raise or lower taxes or charge membership fees should be residents and affected by those decisions.

The committee received the presentation, had a motion and second, and — with no questions from the committee — moved directly to a roll-call vote. The chair announced that the motion "does carry with favorable expression that the bill should pass on the house floor." The transcript records affirmative responses during the roll call and contains no recorded amendments to the bill in committee.

Because the committee reported the bill favorably, HB 682 will be scheduled for consideration on the House floor.
