The Willow Springs R-IV board authorized purchase of a replacement van trailer for the band program after administration said insurance-recovery funds are available and would cover most of the cost.
"This is pretty much a base trailer, 28 foot, 8 and a half wide," the band director and presenter (Presenter, Speaker 11) said while describing the low-bid option and design choices, including upgraded axles and interior tie-downs for instruments and props.
The district business officer (Staff member, Speaker 9) told trustees the insurance recovery money sits in a separate insurance-recovery fund and that the school would need to add $3,300 to make up the difference. "School will have to add $3,300," he said. The transcript contains a somewhat garbled exchange about the exact bid and insurance amounts; the business office presented the net gap ($3,300) as the figure the district must cover.
Board members asked practical questions about towing the new trailer and liability if staff use personal vehicles. Administration responded that sway bars and other safety features are included and said they would verify insurance coverage and liability before regular use with personal vehicles.
The board approved the purchase by voice vote and also agreed to reissue the surplus modular-trailer bid (the prior sale had no bidders). The business office said insurance proceeds for other totaled vehicles and equipment have been recorded in a separate fund and can be allocated to the band trailer purchase.
The board approved the motion to purchase and to relist the surplus trailer during the same meeting.
