VBDA awards Human Services Building elevator contract to lowest bidder at $545,000

The Virginia Beach Development Authority on March 10 approved awarding an elevator modernization contract for the Human Services Building to the lowest responsive bidder, Honest Elevator, at $545,000 and authorized a contingency for additional work.

Pam, the project presenter, said both elevator cabs will receive aesthetic upgrades (flooring, lighting and panels) and essential mechanical, electrical, sprinkler and fire alarm upgrades to bring systems up to current code. "Honest Elevator submitted the lowest bid, at $545,000," she told the board, and staff requested an additional 10% contingency so the total authorization would be just under $600,000.

Board members noted the Human Services capital account balance and asked for questions; none were raised and the board moved, seconded and approved the award on a voice vote.

Staff stated the work is to be paid from the Human Services Building capital reserve and will proceed subject to standard contracting and project management steps.
