The Rock Ridge School Board considered several personnel items on March 9 and approved a package of individual work agreements and a separate contract for Willie Speltz.
On agenda item 7.1 the board voted to approve individual work agreements effective July 1 through June 30, 2028, for a list of named employees. Superintendent/staff said most agreements are zero‑increase ('0 and 0') across both years and that approving the agreements now would not prevent future position reductions if necessary; trustees approved the package unanimously.
Agenda item 7.2 focused on Willie Speltz’s request for a four‑year contract at zeros across the board. Several trustees opposed a four‑year term because of budget uncertainty; others noted Speltz brings grant revenue and is involved in grant development. Staff said roughly $50,000 of Speltz’s salary is currently supported by grants but that funding is not guaranteed. After discussion the board moved and approved a two‑year contract for Speltz (zero across the board).
Board members emphasized that approving multi‑year agreements does not prevent the district from eliminating positions later if budget conditions change. No disciplinary or personnel contention was raised on the record; the votes passed with the board reporting unanimous approval where noted.
Next steps: staff will continue budget planning and bring any recommended position changes or salary negotiations back to the board as needed.
