District and site leaders described a rapid response after school staff reported a person on the Hillsdale campus with what appeared to be a holstered firearm. Security procedures were executed: the site locked down, campus safety specialists intervened, law enforcement was contacted and the individual was detained. Staff coordinated messaging to families and facilitated reunification.
The superintendent praised the coordinated effort, noting that campus safety specialists were on site before law enforcement arrived. The Hillsdale principal explained the timeline: “From the moment I saw the individual to the moment we were able to reunite students with families was 20 minutes,” and credited the safety specialists, the security team and communicating staff for enabling quick reunification.
District staff emphasized that training, communications systems (including ParentSquare and Raptor), and the new roving safety specialists assisted with the immediate response and allowed administrative staff to debrief and update parents rapidly. District and site leaders said the item involved a replica/BB gun that law enforcement treated as a serious threat until assessed. No injuries were reported and operations resumed after law enforcement cleared the campus.
The board publicly thanked staff, law enforcement and site administrators for their response and communications during the incident.
