The Ann Arbor Board of Education approved a consent agenda and heard multiple capital and procurement briefings on Monday.
The consent agenda — which included Pioneer and Skyline auxiliary field synthetic turf replacements, pool scoreboards, a districtwide snow‑removal contract and adoption of a therapy‑animal policy — was moved, seconded and approved on recorded voice votes.
Separately, district staff recommended replacing obsolete playground equipment at King and Hazely elementary schools with NU 3444 structures from Snyder Recreation, priced at $49,049 per playground for a total of $98,098; the physical‑properties presenter said the district will buy through a cooperative and fund the purchase from the sinking fund. Installation could occur before Christmas if the order and scheduling proceed promptly.
In a briefing on cybersecurity, Dr. Kallstrom of the Instructional Technology Department said the district received a $147,936 grant administered through the Michigan Department of Technology Management and Budget and recommended Sentinel Technologies for two years of endpoint protection at a total contract not to exceed $208,725. Funding sources listed in the presentation included the federal grant, applicable bond program items (professional services) and roughly $28,000 per year from the general fund for two years. The IT team told trustees the procurement followed FEMA procurement checklists and an RFP process that attracted 19 proposals and 16 compliant submissions.
Trustees also heard staff recommendations for a redundant chiller at Skyline High School to create cooling redundancy while improvements are made to the geothermal field; the project would be funded from capital (bond) funds and include a 15% contingency.
The board approved the consent agenda by voice vote and then moved on to other business, including accepting the annual audit and scheduling a closed session for a superintendent evaluation on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.
