Cody Wittenberg, environmental services director, used his presentation to highlight several community programs and operational updates.
Wittenberg described the 'Lights Out' bird-safety campaign and urged residents to dim evening lights to help migratory birds. He said the consumer-health permitting office will move to the annex on March 12 and later to City Hall’s 18th floor, with online and in-person payment options available. On Saturday the 20th the city will host Cowtown Cleanup, including a post-event Earth Party and a 'trash and fashion' contest; a separate scrap-tire collection will run 8 a.m.–12 p.m. in City Hall’s back parking lot.
Wittenberg also reviewed Salt Road, the main access to the Southeast Landfill, saying the city will coordinate repaving with the operator Republic and the city of Kennedale; lane closures will maintain access while construction occurs. He announced the city secured a $1,000,000 EPA Brownfields grant to support asbestos abatement at the convention center and said the Brownfields office will hold a workshop for developers and real-estate professionals, with staff coordinating outreach to the Tarrant County Association of Realtors and the Real Estate Council of Fort Worth.
Next steps: staff asked committee members to promote registration for cleanup events, noted logistics for landfill access during construction and said outreach for the Brownfields workshop was underway.
