The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners on March 9 adopted a resolution proclaiming March 2026 as Women’s History Month in Kitsap County and encouraged citizens to recognize the contributions of women across civic, cultural and economic life.
Kimberly Williams, the county’s DEI program manager, read the proclamation language at the meeting, citing the 2026 national theme “Leading the Change, Women Shaping a Sustainable Future” and noting the county observed International Women’s Day in March as part of the month’s recognition. “Throughout history, women have provided the majority of the volunteer labor force, and were particularly important in the establishment of early charitable and philanthropic and cultural institutions in our nation,” Williams read from the resolution.
Commissioner (speaker 5) moved to adopt the resolution and the Chair seconded the motion; the board adopted the proclamation by voice vote. Commissioners and staff thanked Williams for bringing the item forward and discussed the value of recognizing community contributions throughout the year.
The proclamation does not impose new policy or budget items; it is a formal recognition and an encouragement to residents to pay tribute to local women’s civic and community contributions. The board recorded the vote as carried and moved on to other agenda business.
