At its March 10 meeting, the Garrett County Board of Education approved several instructional-material adoptions and a contract for audit services by voice vote.
The board approved Magnetic Literacy (Curriculum Associates) for K–5 elementary English language arts after receiving pilot feedback from teachers. Donna Ashby (S8), who presented the curricular update, said the final cost came in under budget: the initial budget had anticipated $600,000 but the final cost was reported at $452,000. After a superintendent recommendation the board moved and voted to adopt the program.
The board also approved the Savvas Experience Science program for grades 6–8. A presenter (S10) described alignment with Next Generation Science Standards and local display/feedback opportunities; a motion to approve was recorded with 'Rodney' making the motion and 'Jane' seconding, and the board approved the item by voice vote.
On audit services, the superintendent presented a memo recommending retention of Rota Haber Group (transcript contains inconsistent stylings of the firm 94"Rota Haber Associates," "Roadhaven and Associates PC" appears in the spoken record). The board approved retaining the auditor for fiscal year 2026 with no increase in cost, noting the recommendation came by memo.
The meeting record shows these items were handled as action items and/or on the consent agenda and passed by voice vote; individual roll-call tallies were not specified in the transcript.
