The McKinney Historic Preservation Advisory Board voted March 5 to approve a certificate of appropriateness authorizing demolition of a detached shed at 1105 West Lamar.
Reina, historic-preservation staff, told the board the shed was constructed in 2016, was built to appear older but was not historic and is not "character defining or integral to the history of the property." Staff said Sanborn-map review found no historic structure on that parcel prior to the 2016 shed and recommended approval of the demolition request. Reina also described physical damage caused by a tree growing into the shed and said the homeowner planned to replace the structure at a different location on the lot.
Crew options presented to the board included approval; approval with conditions; denial; or a 90-day delay after which the COA would be issued. A board member moved to approve demolition; the motion was seconded and the board "carried unanimously," the chair said.
The board's action authorizes removal of the nonhistoric, detached accessory structure; staff said the finding should not affect the priority rating of the main dwelling on the parcel.
