The North Richland Hills City Council approved a special‑use permit for MJ Commercial Holdings LLC (doing business as MavTel USA) to operate a low‑volume cable and wire‑harness assembly operation at 5113 Commercial Drive.
Corey Ream, planning staff, described the site and said the property sits in C2 commercial zoning and is immediately across from light industrial uses. He noted the Planning and Zoning Commission conducted a public hearing on Feb. 19 and recommended approval by a 7–0 vote. "This is not a request to change zoning to light industrial. It's just a request for the SUP, which is specific to this use," Ream said. He also advised the council that the SUP includes a standard three‑year expiration term.
Applicant Jeff Peterson told the council the business is a low‑volume, high‑mix contract manufacturer of cable and wire harnesses. Peterson said the company recently purchased the building and plans to relocate from Plano. "We're going to be hiring locally here in North Richland Hills and providing jobs," Peterson said, estimating about 20 employees once the site is fully operational. Engineering vice president Howard Wiles added that the company receives materials primarily via FedEx and UPS and does not expect large truck traffic as a routine operation.
Council member Gantz moved to approve ZC25‑0154; the motion was seconded and passed by a 7–0 vote. The SUP will authorize assembly operations at 5113 Commercial Drive and will be subject to the conditions and the standard three‑year expiration in the SUP process.
