Mount Clemens OKs $341,000 Market Street resurfacing with federal funds

The Mount Clemens City Commission authorized the city manager to execute MDOT contract 15-5199 on July 6 to resurface Market Street from North Mount Clemens to North Avenue.

City staff (speaker 7) said the project's estimated total cost is $341,000 and that 81.85 percent of the eligible project cost will be covered by the Federal Surface Transportation Program; the city's major streets fund will cover the remaining eligible costs. Staff flagged one portion of the work (labeled "Part B" in the contract) — decorative crosswalks and audio/visual recording of the construction area — as ineligible for federal participation and estimated that element at $26,700, which the city must pay.

A commissioner asked staff to clarify the contract language identifying which costs are eligible for federal participation; staff explained that Part B is excluded from federal funds and is shown separately in exhibit materials. The motion authorizing the contract passed by roll call vote.
