Committee recommends commission approve lease to relocate childcare to Flamingo Park site

Asset management presented a proposed lease to relocate the South Shore Community Center’s childcare program to approximately 3,500 square feet at 1245 Michigan Avenue (Flamingo Park) while the current facility is redeveloped. Ozzy Dominguez (division director of asset management) said CIP is finalizing the site and staff requested the committee forward the lease with a favorable recommendation so the tenant can secure the space and the city can ensure continuity of childcare services.

Commissioners emphasized the importance of a dignified site for children and thanked staff for finding an alternative prior to redevelopment. The committee unanimously recommended the lease be returned to the Commission with a favorable recommendation; the item passed 3‑0.
