The commission adopted a local-government resolution recognizing the Mount Clemens Barracudas as a Michigan nonprofit eligible for a state charitable gaming license so the organization can hold fundraising events for its youth football and cheer program.
"The Barracuda youth football is a Michigan nonprofit corporation operating in the city of Mount Clemens for the purpose of receiving and administering funds to operate a youth football and cheer program,” City manager Brown said. He added the organization has provided football and cheer opportunities in Mount Clemens since 1972 and is run entirely by volunteers.
Commissioner Button moved to adopt the resolution and a colleague seconded. Commissioner Manser said he was not opposed but requested to see completed application materials in the packet for context; Brown said the city typically completes the state application once the commission approves the local recognition and that past packets included articles of incorporation or IRS 501(c)(3) documentation when submitted.
The commission approved the resolution on roll call. Brown said the approval recognizes the organization as a local nonprofit and allows staff to proceed with the state application process on the group’s behalf.
