Several residents used public participation to press the commission on neighborhood services and to endorse candidates for a vacant commission seat, while the Beautification Commission presented its annual Snowflake awards.
Dolores Kaceniak detailed recurring problems with private rubbish pickup (Ritzel Brothers), saying trash and broken glass had been left in the street multiple times and urging the city to address service quality. "We're paying more...and I figured we're getting less service," she said. Commissioners acknowledged the complaint and said the contract will be reviewed again when it comes up for renewal.
Multiple speakers — Jimmy Dixon, William Dozier, Thomas Jake Lee, Joe Harrington and others — publicly endorsed William (Bill) Ford, citing his familiarity with Mount Clemens and community presence. Several other residents, including Christine Bernier and Sue Dunsmore, urged the commission to consider Laura Fournier for the appointment and noted her experience and past contributions to city programs.
Earlier in the meeting, Kathy Rollinson of the Beautification Committee presented Snowflake certificates and small snowflake awards to seven winners across the city, thanking residents for holiday decorations and encouraging community pride.
Commissioners asked staff to follow up on the rubbish pickup concerns and noted prior attempts to legislate distribution-litter restrictions; the city attorney said a prior ordinance had been proposed but was not approved by the commission and could be brought back for consideration.
The public-comments session featured multiple perspectives on representation, neighborhood services and volunteer contributions.
