The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to approve an agreement with AT&T to upgrade the city's phone system, data connections and related equipment at a capital cost of $49,430.
City staff told commissioners the existing phone system dates to 2003, relies on T1 lines and refurbished equipment, and is increasingly costly to maintain. Staff said the planned upgrade to a voice-over-IP system will improve secure connectivity among city buildings; staff estimated implementation will take three to six months and projected annual savings of roughly $34,000 after the changeover.
A commissioner moved to approve the agreement and the motion passed on roll call.
Why it matters: Staff said the upgrade is intended to address reliability and security concerns and to reduce ongoing maintenance costs. The contract was reviewed by the city attorney before the vote.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with AT&T for procurement and installation and expects the implementation timeline to be three to six months.
