The Mount Clemens City Commission on an evening meeting approved routine agenda items, including the agenda, minutes and a consent package, and heard a city manager’s report on a building energy-efficiency assessment and a recent sewer collapse.
The commission voted on multiple procedural items early in the meeting. A motion to adopt the agenda, to approve the Feb. 21 minutes and to accept the consent agenda were each moved, seconded and recorded on roll call; the minutes show affirmative votes from the commissioners present for each measure.
City staff reported that Johnson Controls presented an assessment of energy use and operational efficiency at city buildings and that the commission will hold budget work sessions March 27–29 to discuss the fiscal-year budget. "A work session was held this evening for discussion regarding the assessment of energy utility and operational efficiency at city buildings by Johnson Controls," a staff member said. The speaker described the presentation as "very enlightening."
The city also announced assessment notices were mailed beginning March 1 and that the Board of Review will hear appeals March 20 and 21. The minutes include a phone number for reservations and questions about library events; the phone number listed for the assessing office in the meeting minutes appears garbled and is not reported here.
On infrastructure, the city reported a small sewer collapse on Hubbard Street west of North Avenue that temporarily affected one property. "Only one property was affected with water loss due to the collapse, but it was restored when the repair was made to the sewer," the city staff member told the commission and said the repair had been completed as of the meeting.
Other remarks during the meeting included a commissioner’s comment about a proposed state income-tax cut that local officials said was placed on hold at the state level and community announcements about library programs, scholarships, local business events and an upcoming Saint Patrick’s Day downtown festival.
The commission adjourned after routine business; no ordinances, appointments or contracts were adopted during the session.
