The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to approve the city’s recommended allocation of $63,834 in 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, city staff said. The administration told the commission the funds must be spent by Dec. 31, 2020.
City staff outlined the proposed distribution: $51,954 for community center ADA and accessibility improvements; $8,000 for a minor home repair program; $880 for Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers; $3,000 for the Macomb County Warming Center; and $1,000 for the Macomb Homeless Coalition. The staff presentation noted a public hearing was held on Jan. 7, 2019, and the item was discussed in a work session on Jan. 22, 2019.
The allocation was offered as a single recommended package and taken to roll call; roll-call responses in the transcript were affirmative and the motion carried. No commissioner questions or proposed amendments were recorded on the final allocation during the meeting.
The decision directs the largest share of the award to accessibility work at the community center, which city staff said is intended to improve ADA compliance and make the facility more usable for residents with disabilities. Smaller awards were allocated to home repairs and local nonprofits that provide winter shelter and caregiving services.
City residents seeking more information about project timelines or eligibility for minor home repair assistance were directed to contact city administration for details and application procedures. The commission did not set additional conditions or reporting requirements on the CDBG allocation at the meeting.
